NYGA 1-2 Samba

The Samba Boys were victorious last night at Met Oval as both teams took a significant health risk to play on a weekend in which 32,000 new coronavirus cases were recorded throughout the five boroughs.

Virus be damned, KidSuper Samba traveled out to the Metropolitan Oval in Queens to face hosts New York Greek Americans in EPSL action. An even first half tilted in Samba’s favor after a Greek Americans player was sent off with a red card halfway through the first forty five. Alhoussain Bah stripped the opposing defender of the ball and took it in one-on-one with the keeper before being brought down from behind by the Greeks’ last man. Unfortunately, the ten men Greeks redoubled their efforts and played quite well as Samba grew casual and failed to capitalize on the numbers advantage.

Ten minutes into the second half saw the introduction of 18-year-old Rijon Harrison who fired Samba in front for good. Jhonny Theze then had a goal disallowed before Alhoussain Bah curled home a Samba second. Theze was also brought down in the box by a Greeks defender but no penalty was called, an occurence that the team has endured time and again this season. A late surge by the undermanned Greeks team saw them record a consolation goal and have another ruled out for offsides as the KidSuper Samba first team escaped the Oval with all three points. It was another very tight affair in the EPSL as Samba played poorly but earned a necessary result.
