Lansdowne 1-0 Samba

Different week, same story. A tale of two halves last night up in Yonkers as Samba again came out on the wrong side of another tight, one-goal game.

Lansdowne’s high pressure style benefited them throughout the first half as they made things uncomfortable for the Samba Boys. Their pressure resulted in many set piece opportunities and they were ultimately rewarded by a free kick golazo from talismanic striker, League of Ireland champion Daryl Kavanagh.

Samba came out a renewed force after halftime and created many chances to equalize the game but ultimately fell short. Another clear penalty shout was not given after a foul in the box by Lansdowne defender Musa Bala Danso on Samba forward Khadim Ndiaye. Samba has been awarded no penalties this season.

Babucarr Ceesay, Jhonny Theze, and Miguel Bustos all made their competitive debuts for the club. Ceesay is a Gambian youth international export, Theze is a current member of the Haiti U23 national team, and Bustos spent last season playing for Primeira Liga side Vitória de Setúbal FC’s U23 team in Portugal.
