Samba 4-3 Lone Star
Tonight in Yonkers the undermanned Samba Boys shook off the rust and squeaked by Philadelphia Lone Star in the team’s first competitive match since the departure of the club’s first ever captain Muntaha Kalley.
22 year old Deandre Gordon lit things up with a first half hat trick in his first game since returning to the club as Samba roared to 3nil advantage. The fitter, more athletic, more experienced Philadelphia Lone Star team had much of the ball and control over the field of play but Samba were lethal on the counter through former Martin Luther King HS duo Gordon and new signing Camary Jonas. Philadelphia clawed a goal back before the break.
The game remained at 3-1 for most of the second half until vice-captain Housainou Ogoo went off with an injury. Lone Star scored 2 goals in the subsequent 5 minutes to bring the game to 3-3, but it was Samba who got the last laugh as veteran left back Ibrahima Bah was assisted by another Guinean Samba legend Alhoussain Bah to steal all three points for boys in green.
