Samba 1-1 (4-3p) Suffolk
The Samba Boys came out on top in penalties Sunday night in Manning Cup action at Icahn Stadium against visiting Suffolk County FC.
Samba thoroughly dominated the first 45 minutes of action but failed to put the ball into the net as things went in all square at the intermission.
It was Suffolk who struck first on a counter attack as KidSuper unnecessarily streamed players forward in the early minutes of the second period. Sub-less Samba continued to dominate and create goal opportunities but were ultimately very fortunate to stay alive as poor keeper play from JC Perez resulted in a second Suffolk goal that was mercifully, and incorrectly, ruled out for offsides. Only minutes later Rijon Harrison capitalized on a defensive error by the visitors to rifle home an equalizing goal in the 80th minute.
In the penalty shootout JC Perez would play the hero, saving two of the five Suffolk penalties to ice the affair.
