Lansdowne 5-2 Samba
A few controversial goals from the hosts and a late second half capitulation from the Samba Boys saw a tight game end in favor of Lansdowne as KidSuper lost the Fleming Cup for the second year running.
Samba came out in a slightly lopsided formation and were lucky not to concede more in the first period, but ultimately only allowed a goal on a very controversial play as a Lansdowne player stomped on KidSuper midfielder Camary Jonas before the ball was run into the back of the net as Jonas lay on the ground injured. Samba center forward Amara Sesay would equalize from a Cheikh Diouf pass before the break, before veteran KidSuper midfielder Caetano Sanchez hit a shot off the crossbar.
The Samba Boys had many chances to take the cup in the second half as Abdoulaye Diallo was unfortunate not to receive a penalty call and then put a beautiful curling effort off the post. A stunning link up sequence between Diallo, veteran player-coach Jonathan Jackson, and Sabitu Issah nearly resulted in the Ghanaian left back putting a hole in the back of the Lansdowne net with a drilled effort. Everything appeared to be in Samba’s favor as Lansdowne turned chippy in the face of defeat and Bhoys captain Daryl Kavanagh was sent off for his second yellow but the referees questionably allowed Lansdowne to replace him and stay on full numbers. Ultimately, Samba fell apart in the back and allowed an easy goal, before a controversial penalty call saw the Irish side up 3-1. Two more defensive breakdowns saw the hosts ahead 5-1 before Amara Sesay crawled one back on a cross from Dylan Cope.
