Lansdowne 4-3 Samba
The KidSuper boys fell 4-3 to local rivals Lansdowne last night in Yonkers in the first ever Fleming Cup.
The Samba Boys went ahead 15 minutes into the game against the run of play as Elhadj Diallo intercepted a throw-in back to the Lansdowne keeper, played the ball over him and then headed it in himself in a fine effort. Lansdowne pulled one back from a corner kick before half to go in even at 1-1.
The Irish club came out pressing and went ahead early in the second half, before Samba upped the ante and got themselves back into the game. Elhadj Diallo was at it again, played in over the top on a through ball by Giorgi Manzula. Elhadj still had much work to do but freed himself some space on his stronger left foot, dispatching with the Lansdowne center back pairing with some fantastic individual skill before blasting one past the opposing keeper. Elhadj then found Deandre Gordon with a sharp ball in from the right wing that Gordon took and coolly drilled past the keeper into the roof of the net to put the Boys up 3-2 with under 20 minutes to play. It wasn’t to last unfortunately as over casual possession in the back from Samba would repeatedly allow their high pressing opponents the wherewithall to manufacture opportunities. Lansdowne equalized from another corner kick before ultimately taking their final 4-3 advantage to win the Fleming Cup. Both sides emptied their benches with youngsters towards the end of the friendly occasion.
Ahmed Faiad, Akeem Shelton, Sidy Diallo, and Sidi Camara made their club debuts for KidSuper Samba.
