Kearny 1-0 Samba
The Samba Boys produced their best performance of the season on Sunday night October 9 in New Jersey, and were unlucky to fall to a late Kearny goal despite dominating the encounter.
Samba were thoroughly out of sorts to begin their first game since the sacking of head coach Ansumana Gaye, but soon found their footing and began to move the ball well and create chances. The half finished nil-nil in the tight away tie against an always defensively strong Kearny Scots side, with Karamba Janneh missing the best chance thus far a few minutes before the intermission after Samba had been lucky to survive the chaotic first fifteen minutes of the match. The first half of the match would possibly be most remembered for the tragic rupturing of the achilles tendon of starting goalkeeper Rashawn Best right before the stroke of halftime.
In the second half KidSuper were by far the dominant force, with most of the game played in the Kearny half as the home side absorbed constant pressure from the visitors. Unfortunately, and against the run of play, it was Kearny who pulled an unlikely winner in the 82nd minute after a combination play between their forwards and a blistering shot past substitute keeper Edgar Aguilar.
